However, this is still just early leaked information, and the final design could completely change. For users, appearance certainly affects the ownership experience, but in a flagship model, camera capabilities, battery life, and performance are still the factors that have a more direct impact.
If Samsung is indeed changing the camera layout in exchange for better hardware, a less visually appealing design might be an acceptable trade-off.
New camera system
According to rumors, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may abandon its current four-camera system in favor of a three-camera rear setup, consisting of a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera supporting 5x optical zoom. The 10MP 3x zoom camera may be removed.
This could be a noticeable change for users who frequently shoot photos at multiple focal lengths. Instead of maintaining a less useful 3x zoom camera, Samsung will focus resources on a higher-resolution 5x zoom camera.

The 200MP main camera may also switch to a larger sensor. Rumors suggest it could use a 1/1.12-inch ISOCELL HPA sensor or a 1/1.3-inch sensor. If implemented, a larger sensor could improve light gathering capabilities and image quality in challenging conditions.
More notably, Samsung is considering LOFIC technology. This technology could help the sensor process bright and dark areas simultaneously more effectively, thereby improving dynamic range without relying too heavily on multi-frame HDR methods.
The 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera will also be a significant improvement over the current generation. Meanwhile, the rumored 50MP 5x telephoto camera is said to have a wider aperture, which could provide better support for shooting in low-light conditions.
The front camera is also likely to be upgraded to 16 MP, replacing the 12 MP sensor that Samsung has been using since the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Unusual design
Another detail mentioned is that Samsung once considered a variable aperture for the 200MP main camera. However, this feature may have been dropped due to higher costs, a thicker camera module, and the practical benefits not being commensurate. For users, Samsung prioritizing upgrades that have a clear impact on image quality may be more reasonable than an experimental feature.

Design controversies also arose with the iPhone 17 Pro. When rendered images of this model, projected for 2025, surfaced, the large rear camera module drew considerable disapproval. However, a controversial appearance doesn't necessarily mean the product will fail commercially.

With the Galaxy S27 Ultra, if Samsung actually upgrades the main camera, adds a 50MP ultrawide camera, improves 5x zoom, and removes the 10MP 3x camera, the change in appearance may become a less important factor for buyers.
