Xiaomi's monster chip leaves Apple and Samsung in the dust when it comes to smartphones.

It's time for Xiaomi to be confident enough in the high-end smartphone market, ready to "knock out" rivals Samsung and Apple, at least when it comes to processing power.


The competition in the mobile chip market is becoming increasingly fierce. Qualcomm with its Snapdragon chips, Apple with its A-series chips, and MediaTek's Dimensity chips have become major players in the high-end segment. Samsung is also constantly striving with its Exynos chips. Meanwhile, Google with its Tensor chips has yet to catch up in terms of performance.

The Xring O3 is the first mobile SoC chip to achieve a score above 5 million on AnTuTu, at least according to Xiaomi's claims.


Now, newcomer Xiaomi is increasingly proving its position in the market with the launch of the Xring O3, after impressing with the Xring O1 last year. The Xring O3 is the company's second-generation high-end smartphone chip, manufactured using a 3nm process. But perhaps the most impressive thing about the Xring O3 is that this processor achieved 5,228,014 points in the AnTuTu V11 benchmark, allowing Xiaomi to proudly claim it as the fastest mobile SoC currently available on the market, although independent testing is still needed to confirm this.

The XRing O3 boasts a powerful 10-core CPU design, including 2 C1-Ultra cores with speeds up to 4.35 GHz, 4 C1-Premium cores at 3.68 GHz, and 4 C1-Pro cores with a maximum speed of 3.15 GHz. According to Xiaomi, this chip achieved 3,945 single-core points and 15,221 multi-core points in the Geekbench 6.5 test, showing improvements of 31% and 61% respectively compared to its predecessor, the XRing O1. Notably, power consumption can be reduced by up to 25% when handling low to medium-level tasks.


The XRing O3's new 16-core Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU also impressed, scoring 4,567 points in the 3DMark Steel Nomad Lite test, an 85% increase over the previous generation. The Solar Bay Extreme test achieved 3,628 points, a 182% improvement over the XRing O1 and over 63% better than Apple's A19 Pro.

It wouldn't be surprising if future Xiaomi smartphones use their own proprietary chips.


The XRing O3 is also equipped with dedicated neural network hardware, enabling AI-powered resolution upscaling and frame generation during graphics processing. Xiaomi states that games can be internally displayed at 540p before upscaling to 1080p, saving up to 20% power compared to native 1080p display. The chip is also capable of converting 60fps output to 120fps.


The redesigned 4-core neural processing unit (NPU) delivers 200 TOPS performance, and it's the first SoC to support LPDDR6 memory with a maximum bandwidth of 113.8GB/second. The entire chip contains 24 billion transistors in a 133mm² area, manufactured using TSMC's N3P process.

The XRing O3 will debut on the Xiaomi 18 Fold and Pad 9 Pro Max, which the Chinese company is expected to introduce in September. According to Reuters, Xiaomi is continuing to develop its own processor chips to better control critical components and reduce reliance on suppliers like Qualcomm and MediaTek. More importantly, the XRing O3 is seen as a stepping stone for future Xiaomi smartphones to surpass their competitors in terms of performance.
